Read Philippians 4:6-7.
Too often we live in a state of anxiety about our world, our nation and ourselves. The inner peace we so desperately seek can be elusive when chaos whirls around us. Distress and worry come at a great cost—physically, emotionally and spiritually. Spend some time today reflecting on the peace of God that passes understanding. Reread this prayer from Sunday and reflect on each section:
In a world where so many experience violence,
God illuminates peace in our hearts.
Lord, give us Your peace.
In uncertain times even in our own country,
Pour Your Spirit out in huge measure.
Lord, give us Your peace.
For our own anxious minds and troubled souls,
We reach out to You, Jesus.
Lord, give us Your peace.
As we wait for a Savior in this time of Advent—
The One called Immanuel, God with us—
Lord, give us Your peace.
Invite God’s Spirit to search your heart for pockets of fear, anxiety and worry. Gather your anxious thoughts in a journal or in your mind and offer them to God. Practice trusting that He will guard your heart and mind in Jesus.
