Advent Devotional

2023 ADVENT DEVOTIONAL

Advent is the season of waiting, hoping and watching for the light. It signifies the arrival of Jesus, who was born, lived among us, died for us and rose again to redeem and restore us.

How do we spend this time of preparation? We are invited to imagine what it must have been like wait in hope for the birth of the long-promised Messiah. We reflect on the promise and prophecy. The Old Testament is a crescendo to His coming. The New Testament calls us to “come and see” Jesus. God’s whole Word, His creation and the Church shine and speak of light and life. So we take time to reflect, repent and worship—all to His glory. We are re-energized to go and tell the world, “Jesus Christ is born!”

Around the world, music is a significant part of Advent and the Christmas season. From the ancient hymns of the early Church to the contemporary songs created by today’s global Church, music helps us find expression for our worship. We remember Christ’s birth and await His second coming. Our music resonates through the centuries as we live between the already and the not yet, the come and the coming.

This year, Frontier Fellowship invites you to go deeper into the music of the season. Some of the songs will be very familiar; others may be new to you. We invite you to see God at work in your life and also discover glimpses of His work on the frontier. For thousands of people, this Christmas may be the first they can truly understand and celebrate Christ’s coming. We pray each day will bring insight, hope and joy to your Advent reflections and deepen your understanding of and love for the world’s least-reached people.
