At the end of 2023, my husband, Alex, and I launched a Bible study for international students in our area in conjunction with a South Asian pastor. We have had Middle Eastern, Central Asian and South Asian students join the study on and off.
In one of the studies, we read Matthew 12 together. Yasmina*, a young woman from Central Asia, asked, “Who is the Holy Spirit?”
Her question led us into a discussion about the Holy Spirit as our advocate, comforter and guide—one with God the Father and Jesus Christ in unity. Then, Sami*—a Muslim student from Iran—chimed in, saying:
“I was recently watching a YouTube video, and I read the comments section. Someone described the Trinity as being like the sun. The sun is made of fire, but creates rays of light as well as heat. All three of these are different elements or aspects, but all the same thing. This analogy was being used to explain the truth of the reality of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit being three persons, but one God. So, there is only one God; just like the sun, there are three persons. I’m not sure I believe this. But the way this person explained that made sense to me, and I thought it was a beautiful concept and explained very well.”
Now, Yasmina and Sami are actively reading God’s Word, listening to Christian podcasts and asking meaningful questions about faith in Jesus. They regularly attend our Bible study and attend events to care for other members of their community, and they have joined our family to celebrate Christian holidays!
We are grateful for the ways God is working in the hearts of least-reached peoples and for the ways He is allowing us to share the Good News of Jesus. Join us in praying for Yasmina, Sami and others who are learning about God and His love for them. Pray that many least-reached peoples will soon have an opportunity to hear and respond to the Gospel!
