A leader from one of Frontier Fellowship’s partners in Central Asia, Viktor*, recently came to the US to meet with churches and individuals interested in their ministry. My wife, Laurie, and I were honored to host Viktor in our home during his time in the States.
One Sunday morning, I was preparing breakfast for us to all enjoy together—oatmeal with all of the fixings. I called out to Viktor to let him know that it was ready. He replied from down the hall, “Donald, can I have just a few more minutes for something?” I said, “Yes, of course, what’s going on?” I could hear his footsteps approaching.
As Viktor walked into the dining room, he pulled out his phone. He opened WhatsApp and made a video call to a pastor in Central Asia. Viktor showed me the phone, and I could see a group of people gathered together in what looked like the attic of a building. Most of them were youth and young adults. Then, standing in my house in Richmond, Virginia, Viktor began to preach to this group of young people in Central Asia! In their shared language of Russian, Viktor shared about God’s unconditional love.
Viktor used the technology available to him to share the Good News of Jesus, even from a great physical distance. This small church in Central Asia meets secretly due to persecution in their area, so it would be challenging for Viktor to meet with them in person. Yet, he was able to reach in and share the Good News of Jesus with Muslim-background believers. Thank God for Frontier Fellowship’s partners and the way they adapt and improvise to make sure that the Gospel is accessible to the least-reached peoples in their region!
