“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” —Acts 1:8 (NLT)
Some stories become obsolete the more they are told. Have you ever heard too many repetitions of the same old tale? Eyes glaze over, ears tune out and, at some point, the punchline loses all impact.
The Bible contains the greatest story ever told—the timeless story of a God who loves the world so much that He sent His only Son, Jesus, to rescue us and lead us back into the community of His Kingdom. It is the story of Immanuel, the God who is with us. This Good News continues to bring hope, peace and joy to its hearers more than two millennia later.
Unlike some stories, the Gospel story becomes more powerful and life-altering the more it is heard and shared.
“Indeed, the Word of God is living and active…” —Hebrews 4:12
This is part of our calling as followers of Jesus: to make the Good News known near and far, to all peoples everywhere, to the ends of the earth!
Do you still revel in the power of the Gospel story as you once did? Have familiar Bible passages become rote or mundane? Try reading or listening to Luke 2:1-20 in another Bible translation. Ask God to renew your passion for embracing and sharing the Gospel story.
